Black Keys vs. Danger Mouse, Flight of the Conchords vs. Oasis, The Kinks vs. The Kinks

Black Keys Tour & Release New Album w/ Dangermouse

The Black Keys will tour, release new album this year, so says Muzzle of Bees. Looks like they’ll be in New York, Washington DC, Chicago, San Diego and everywhere in between.

In what could be the most interesting moment in music, Danger Mouse will be producing the New Black Keys’ album, “Attack & Release.” Maybe I’m crazy, but I’m looking forward to this madly come April 1.

Flight of the Conchords Manager Murray Hewitt’s New Year’s Plan

NME is reporting that Murray Hewitt, Flight of the Conchords’ mild-mannered manager has offered to be Oasis’ new manager. Considering the recent success of “The Doggy Bounce,” and Oasis’ fall from pop graces, what have they got to loose?

What advice does Hewitt offer?

Im not sure about the name. What does it mean? Basically it’s a small pond of water in a dry desert. OK, it’s not too bad, but you could do better? From the experience I’ve had I don’t think brothers is going to work. I might have to split you up into two different bands to be fair. One can be Oasis and the other one can be Mirage - that’s another desert name.

In other Flight of the Conchords news, the complete first season is now available!

Kinks REUNION??? Nope.

The Daily Swarm is the front-runner for the 2008 Buzzkill of the Year Award, dismissing reports of a Kinks reunion tour. Thanks for nothing.

The Best of the Best (Top Music Lists of 2007)

It wouldn’t be New Years without a bunch of “Best Of” lists. Nor would it be New Years without “Worst Of” lists, like Cracked.com’s hilarious The Year in Douchebaggery - the 10 Biggest D-Bags of 2007.

To help musicphiles out, Largehearted Boy used his abnormally-sized heart to create a master list of music related Best of Lists.

For our part here at The Oxhorn, we’d like to contribute to the epidemic with a whittled down Best of the Best of Lists. A meta-list, of sorts.

A few of our own picks round out the bottom of the list.

2007

5. 9b.net’s Top 5 Albums
Simple, interesting, good music. Focused on a raw, Americana sound, 9 Bullets backs up their claims with plenty of songs to download. Special props for the Kenny Wayne Sheppard blues jams.

4. The Onion’s Least Essential Albums of 2007
In case you wanted to know what you shouldn’t spend your money on, The Onion drops a typically amusing list. If you purchased any of these albums, our apologies.

3. Get Big, Little Kid’s Top Songs
A great list of songs, some more off the beaten path than others. I like the choice of “Impossible Germany” as top song - it’s a real standout from Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky, an album that has, unfortunately, been buried over the year.

2. The Yellow Stereo’s Favorite Albums of 2007
Wide ranging, original, nice layout, characteristic of the fine qualities of the Yellow Stereo. Check out the tracks provided for download. But really, “In Rainbows” as #1? Was it REALLY that good???

1. Culture Bully’s Top 10 Music Videos of 2007
An engaging list of music + images, with all the videos embedded onto the page for your viewing pleasure. Standouts include “D.A.N.C.E.” by Justice, Aesop Rock’s “None Shall Pass” and the tongue-in-cheek Kanye West featuring Zach Galifianakis and Will Oldham “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.”

We liked a lot of the same songs everyone else did this year. But here are a few that seem to have slipped under the radar.

Download The Budos Band ’s “Chicago Falcon”

The perfect track for growing a mustache while chasing down fugitives (in the 1970s).

Download The Super Furry Animals’ “The Gift That Keeps Giving”

One of the many beautiful songs from “Hey Venus!” the new release from the criminally under-appreciated masters of pop music, the Super Fury Animals.

Download The Rosebuds’ “Get up Get Out”

Just a fun, fun song.

Fortnightly Music Blog Round Up

Kicking off the fortnightly music blog round up, here’s a list of all the latest developments over the past few weeks.

Music Blog Round Up

Free CDs by The Twilight Sad, New Pornographers, Junior Senior

Culture Bully is running a great contest on their site. Each day they are offering mp3s of great bands like: Bon Iver, Dinosaur Jr., Andrew Bird and Grant Lee Phillips. You send them an email letting them know which disc you want, and two winners will be selected randomly.

The Return of the Rentals

The Yellow Stereo has the Rentals newest track, Last Romantic Day. It’s a very nice song, and very nice to have the Rentals back after such silence.

Iron & Wine

Brian at Bows Plus Arrows has an twangy, beautiful new song by Iron & Wine. Great vocals and picking, and some of the best clapping I’ve heard in ages.

Minus The Bear - Planet Ice

Can You See The Sunset from The Southside has a great review of Minus The Bear’s New Album, Planet Ice. Read the Minus The Bear review, download some of the tracks and let them know what you think.
